Huawei’s ambition in the foldable smartphone market continues to draw attention, especially with fresh leaks hinting at a sequel to its unique tri-fold device. The rumored Huawei Mate XT 2 could arrive in the second half of 2025 and is said to introduce some key enhancements over the first-generation model.
The original Mate XT, launched in September 2024, made waves as the first tri-fold commercial smartphone and featured a 6.4-inch cover display that expanded to a 10.2-inch tablet when fully opened. According to multiple reports, the next model will likely retain this distinctive screen format, aiming for continuity in user experience rather than changes for their own sake.
Where the Mate XT 2 appears poised to forge ahead is under the hood. The phone is expected to move from the Kirin 9010 chipset to a newer processor, possibly the Kirin 9020. This chip, recently introduced in other Huawei flagships, uses a 7nm process and a 12-core architecture, which suggests it should deliver improved efficiency and raw power. While this change may seem incremental at first glance, it keeps the Mate XT 2 in pace with Huawei’s latest flagship offerings.
Another area likely to see improvement is the camera hardware. Specifics remain elusive for now, but leaks indicate that image quality will be a key focus. The first Mate XT featured a triple-camera array with 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and 12MP telephoto sensors. There is hope among fans that the next version could surpass this already competitive setup.
Other specifications, such as RAM, battery capacity, and charging speed, have yet to surface, and Huawei has yet to publish any official statements regarding the Mate XT 2.
